WXP Local Events for WooCommerce is an add-on for WXP Local Events. It adds a choice to paid events: guests pay at the door, or online with WooCommerce. You can add it when you buy WXP Local Events, and it is included in the bundles. This guide takes about ten minutes.
Before you start #
- WordPress 6.5 or newer, and PHP 8.1 or newer. Your hosting company can tell you which PHP version you use.
- WXP Local Events, version 1.0.1 or newer, installed, active and licensed.
- WooCommerce, version 8.0 or newer, installed and active. Set up your payment methods, taxes and (if you like) coupons in WooCommerce first. They all stay WooCommerce settings.
- The licence key of the add-on, from your purchase email. If you bought a bundle, the add-on is included: use the licence key of the bundle.
- Administrator access to your WordPress site.
Step 1: Download the add-on #
- Open the email you received after your purchase. It has a link to your downloads.
- Download the ZIP file of the add-on. If you bought a bundle, it is listed with the other plugins of the bundle. Do not extract it.
Step 2: Upload the add-on to WordPress #
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Go to Plugins → Add New Plugin and click Upload Plugin.
- Choose the ZIP file you downloaded and click Install Now.
- When WordPress confirms the installation, click Activate Plugin.
Step 3: Activate your licence #
- After you activate the add-on, it asks for its licence key.
- Enter the key from your purchase email (or the key of your bundle) and confirm.
The add-on works as soon as the licence is accepted. WXP Local Events needs its own licence too, so activate that first if you have not done so.
Step 4: Switch on online payment for an event #
- Edit a paid event under Events.
- Under Price, answer “How do guests pay?” with Online payment with WooCommerce, and save.
From now on, a guest who reserves is taken straight to the WooCommerce checkout.
How it works #
- The add-on creates one hidden WooCommerce product for the event (type “event ticket”). It is not in your shop and not in the search results, and it is set to noindex. The quantity is the number of tickets. A repeating event needs no extra products.
- A reservation is pending until the order is paid (processing or completed in WooCommerce). Then it is confirmed, and the guest and the venue get their e-mails. If the event needs approval, it stays pending until you approve it.
- A cancelled or refunded order cancels the reservation, so the seats are free again.
- Unpaid reservations release their seats after the Hold stock (minutes) time of WooCommerce (60 minutes when that is empty). The order is cancelled with them. Orders on hold, for example bank transfers, are left to you.
- In Events → Reservations a reservation shows Paid online or Waiting for payment, with a link to the order.
- A guest cannot cancel a paid reservation with the link in the e-mail. You cancel it and refund the order in WooCommerce.
- While WooCommerce is active, the currency of WXP Local Events is read-only and follows WooCommerce.
Troubleshooting #
- The add-on says the licence is not valid: check that the key is the one of the add-on (or of your bundle), and that WXP Local Events itself is licensed. Open a ticket if it still fails.
- “Online payment” is not in the Price choices: check under Plugins → Installed Plugins that WXP Local Events (1.0.1 or newer), WooCommerce and this add-on are all active.
- The guest cannot change the number of tickets in the cart: that is on purpose. The number belongs to the reservation. The guest can remove the line and reserve again.
- How long are seats held? As long as WooCommerce holds stock: WooCommerce → Settings → Products → Inventory → Hold stock (minutes).
- Installation fails: check that the file is the original ZIP and that your site has enough disk space. Some hosts limit the upload size; ask your host to raise it.
Updates and support #
When a new version is available, WordPress shows an update notice on the Plugins page. Need help? Open a ticket on the support page. Support for this add-on is handled on this website, not on WordPress.org.
