WXP Events Feed shows the coming events of another website that runs WXP Local Events. You install it on the website that should show the events, for example the site of a partner, a club or a neighbourhood. It is free. This guide takes about five minutes.
Before you start #
- WordPress 6.5 or newer, and PHP 8.1 or newer.
- Administrator access to the website that will show the list.
- The website with the events runs WXP Local Events, version 0.14 or newer. Only that website needs WXP Local Events, not the website that shows the list.
Step 1: Switch on sharing on the events website #
- On the website with the events, update WXP Local Events to version 0.14 or newer.
- Go to Events → Settings → Share events and switch it on.
The events website then shares public data only: title, date and time, short description, image and link. Never reservations or personal data.
Step 2: Install the plugin on the website that shows the list #
- Log in to the WordPress admin dashboard of that website.
- Go to Plugins → Add New Plugin and click Upload Plugin.
- Choose the ZIP file of WXP Events Feed (do not extract it) and click Install Now, then Activate Plugin. You can also upload the plugin folder to
/wp-content/plugins/and activate it.
Step 3: Connect it to the events website #
- Go to Settings → Events Feed and fill in the address of the events website.
- Click Test the connection. The test uses the address as it is in the field, also before you save it. Then save.
Step 4: Put the list on a page #
Add the list where you want it, in one of three ways:
- the block Events feed (in the category WXP Plugins);
- the Elementor widget Events feed;
- the shortcode, for example
[wxp_events_feed limit="5"]. All parameters are in WXP Events Feed: for developers.
Good to know #
- Visitors never wait for the events website. The list is kept on your site (default one hour) and refreshed in the background. If the events website is down, the last list stays visible.
- Changed an event, but the old one still shows? Use Empty the cache in the settings to see the change at once.
- Dates follow the date and time format of the website that shows them, or the text of the events website, your choice.
Troubleshooting #
- The list does not show: visitors see nothing when the list cannot be loaded, to keep your pages clean. Administrators see a short message with the reason. Use Test the connection in the settings to find out what is wrong.
- The address of the events website is on a private network: WordPress refuses such requests. On an intranet, allow them with the core filter
http_request_host_is_external. - Installation fails: check that the file is the original ZIP and that your site has enough disk space.
Updates and privacy #
WXP Events Feed is not in the WordPress Plugin Directory, so twice a day WordPress asks GitHub whether there is a newer release. Nothing but the request itself is sent. You can switch that off under Settings → Events Feed → Updates. Your server contacts the events website, never the visitor’s browser. Your server sends only an ordinary request with the address of your website in the user agent. Need help? Open a ticket on the support page.
