# Events Feed: for developers

WXP Events Feed shows a list of coming events from another website that runs WXP Local Events. This page has the shortcode, the styling hooks and the filters.

## Shortcode

```
[wxp_events_feed limit="5" category="music" image="yes" description="yes" time="yes" date="site" heading="h3"]
```

| Parameter | Values | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `limit` | 1 to 20 | Number of events. Default 5. |
| `category` | slugs | Category slugs of the events website, comma separated. |
| `image` | `yes`, `no` | Show the picture. Default `yes`. |
| `description` | `yes`, `no` | Show the short description. Default `yes`. |
| `time` | `yes`, `no` | Show the time. Default `yes`. |
| `image_size` | `thumbnail`, `medium` | Size of the picture. Default `thumbnail`. |
| `date` | `site`, `source` | `site` formats dates like this website does (default). `source` uses the text of the events website. |
| `heading` | `h2` to `h6`, `p` | Element for the titles. Default `h3`. |
| `class` | text | An extra CSS class. |

The same options are in the block **Events feed** and in the Elementor widget.

## Styling

Colours and fonts come from your theme. The look is made with CSS custom properties on `.wxp-ef`:

| Property | What it sets |
| --- | --- |
| `--wxp-ef-gap` | The space between events. |
| `--wxp-ef-image-size` | The size of the picture. |
| `--wxp-ef-date-color` | The colour of the date. |
| `--wxp-ef-date-size` | The size of the date. |
| `--wxp-ef-title-size` | The size of the title. |
| `--wxp-ef-line` | The line between events. |

```
.wxp-ef {
    --wxp-ef-gap: 1.5rem;
    --wxp-ef-date-color: #b45309;
}
```

Other parts have classes that start with `.wxp-ef__`. In Elementor you can use the style controls of the widget instead.

## Filter: `wxp_events_feed_update_repo`

**Filter.** The plugin is not in the WordPress Plugin Directory, so it looks for new versions on GitHub. This filter changes the repository that holds the releases.

| Argument | Type | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `$repo` | string | The repository as `owner/name`. |

**Return:** the repository as `owner/name`.

## Good to know

- **Settings option:** `wxp_events_feed_settings`. The settings page is **Settings → Events Feed**.
- **Cache:** the list is stored on your site (default 60 minutes) and refreshed in the background by the event `wxp_ef_refresh`. Visitors never wait for the events website.
- **Private networks:** WordPress refuses requests to addresses on a private network. On an intranet, allow them with the core filter `http_request_host_is_external`.
- **Privacy:** only public data is shared by the events website: title, date and time, short description, image and link. The request comes from your server, never from the visitor's browser.
- **Translations:** Dutch (informal and formal), German and French are included.
